Outdoor Fishing Gear
Before you head out on any fishing trip, whether you are hitting a peaceful river at the height of summer or braving a frozen lake in the depth of winter, you need to make sure all your outdoor fishing gear is in good working order before you go. In fact, checking your outdoor fishing gear should always be on the schedule.
Make sure your rods are in good order. Broken eyelets are common, especially if your outdoor fishing gear has been stored away for a while. If the rod has not been used in a while, the line probably should be replaced to ensure that frayed lines breaking suddenly does not allow that great big one to get away at the last minute. Fishing reels should be cleaned and oiled on a regular basis to ensure great performance, as there is little more frustrating than a fishing reel that jams when you have finally landed a great specimen on your hook.
Check all the hooks in your tackle box to make sure that they are still sharp enough to get the job done properly, throwing away any that just look too worn to be of any further use. Arranging different fishing lures in easy to access compartments can save you a lot of time when you are out on the water and it’s a good idea to keep a decent selection of your favorites on hand at all times. Add any extras you like to your outdoor fishing gear, such as a fish attractant cream, or for the more technologically inclined an electronic fish finder, and do not forget to pack a good sun block if you are headed out for a day in the sun.
