Fly Fishing Gear
On any given nice weekend, millions of people pack up their fishing gear and head out onto the water in search of the big catch. Fly fishing is particularly popular, but involves a whole different technique to that of bass or other variations on the sport, and quite a lot of different equipment. Fly fishing gear is a little more specialized and the new fisherman might want to do his or her homework carefully before heading out to buy their new supplies.
A basic essential is of course the fly fishing rod. The classic standard is a light bamboo rod, which many professional fly fishermen swear is the best choice. However modern materials like graphite and fiberglass are lighter and less expensive and may be the better fly fishing gear choice for the beginner or novice.

The rod you choose needs to feel balanced and be light enough that you can cast with a degree of accuracy. In fly fishing, the fly needs to hit the water as delicately and naturally as possible, the idea is to trick the fish, not scare them off. There are many great rods out there, and which is going to work for you comes down to personal preference and skill level.
The basic staple of fly fishing, the flies, come in hundreds of different variations, and everyone you talk to will have his or her own particular favorites. Like many other things in fishing, experimentation is the only way to really find out what works for you and in the waters you fish in.
